70 Km from Leh on banks of the Indus, is Alchi Gompa dating a thousand years back. Alchi Choskor is the only monastery in the Ladakh on flat ground. Largest and most famous of all of the temples and built by the great translator Ringchem Zangpo. The temple was founded in 11th century which accounts for the Indian and particularly Kashmiri influences.
One of its walls feature thousands of miniature-sized pictures of the Buddha. Three large sized images made of clay and painted brightly are its focal attraction.
